MC Oluomo Promised Us N1.5m Each for Tinubu’s Campaign But Paid Nothing — Actor Lalude Cries Out
Popular Yoruba actor, Fatai Oodua, also known as Lalude, has come out to speak about a broken promise made by Lagos transport boss and APC supporter, MC Oluomo.
In a recent interview making rounds on social media, Lalude said that during the last presidential campaign for Bola Ahmed Tinubu, they were promised money to support and promote the APC candidate. According to him, MC Oluomo promised to pay N1.5 million to each actor involved, but till today, not even a kobo was paid.
Lalude, known for his roles in Yoruba traditional movies, said they were invited to support the campaign because of their influence and fan base. He said he and other actors agreed because they believed in the cause and also trusted the promise made by MC Oluomo.
“He said they would pay each of us N1.5 million. We worked, we campaigned, we shouted, we supported. But after everything, we saw nothing. We were abandoned,” Lalude said in Yoruba during the interview.
He went further to explain that many of them spent their own money on transportation and logistics, hoping that the promised payment would come after the campaign. But even after Tinubu won the election and became president, nobody got back to them.
“We believed them because MC Oluomo is a big man and close to power. But it’s almost two years now, and nothing. Not even a call. It’s painful,” he added.
The actor said he decided to speak out now because the hardship in the country is becoming too much and many of them are struggling to survive. According to him, some of the actors that joined the campaign are now begging for money to feed and pay hospital bills.
Lalude’s statement has caused a lot of reaction online. Some Nigerians are supporting him, saying politicians always use people and dump them. Others, however, are blaming the actors for getting involved in politics in the first place.
One social media user wrote:
“You sold your voice and influence to campaign for someone. Now you're complaining because they didn’t pay. What about the millions suffering because of your influence?”
Another said:
“This is why celebrities should stay out of politics if they are not ready to face the consequences.”
MC Oluomo, whose real name is Musiliu Akinsanya, is the chairman of the Lagos State Parks and Garages. He is known to be a strong supporter of President Bola Tinubu and played a major role during the 2023 elections, especially in Lagos State.
As at the time of writing this blog post, MC Oluomo has not responded to the claims made by Lalude.
This is not the first time entertainers have complained about being used during elections. In past elections, many musicians and actors have spoken about how they were promised money or positions but got nothing after the victory.
Now that Lalude has spoken, many people are watching to see if other actors who took part in the campaign will come out to support his claim. Also, Nigerians are waiting to hear what MC Oluomo or his team has to say in response.
