Popular Yoruba actress, Bukky Fagbuyi, has opened up about her painful experience with sexual harassment in the Nollywood film industry.
In a recent interview on Biola Adebayo’s YouTube channel, Fagbuyi shared how some male actors tried to take advantage of her when she first joined the industry. She explained that many newcomers, especially beautiful young actresses, are often pressured into having sex in exchange for movie roles.
“One actor told me I wouldn’t succeed in Nollywood unless I had sex with him,” Fagbuyi said. “When I refused, he and some of his friends stopped working with me.”
She also revealed that a journalist, who was friends with the actor, called her to convince her to sleep with him. But she stood her ground and refused.
Fagbuyi’s story sheds light on a serious issue in Nollywood – the sexual harassment of actresses. She said many actresses suffer in silence because they are afraid to speak out.
Her decision to speak up is an act of courage and a call for change. She hopes her story will help create a safer and more respectful working environment for women in the movie industry.
Nollywood is one of the biggest film industries in the world, producing over 2,500 movies a year. But like many other industries, it is still largely controlled by men, and sexual harassment remains a big problem.
Fagbuyi’s experience is not unique. In recent years, more actresses have started speaking out about similar experiences. Many believe it’s time for Nollywood to take the issue seriously and protect women from abuse.
She also said, “No one should have to give up their values or self-respect to succeed in life.”
Bukky Fagbuyi’s message is clear: the film industry must do better, and young actresses deserve to grow their careers without fear of exploitation.
