Police Arrest Pastor for Killing and Burying Church Member in Lagos


The police have arrested Prophet Whepetoji Babaniyah, the Senior Shepherd of Celestial Church of Christ, Ileri Oluwa Parish, LASU 2, PPL Ojo, Lagos, for allegedly killing a church member and burying his body on the church premises.


The victim, Ogunbode Kodri Adedamola Olasunkanmi, was last seen on January 16. His girlfriend said he called her that day to inform her that he was going to church. However, he never returned. Worried, she kept telling people that the last place he mentioned was the church.



After his disappearance was reported to the police, officers arrested the church leader, Prophet Whepetoji Babaniyah. At first, the pastor denied that Ogunbode had come to the church that day.


However, during the investigation, the police discovered that ₦1.5 million was transferred from Ogunbode’s account to the pastor’s account on the same day. Another transfer was also made to the pastor’s child’s account.



The police later arrested the pastor’s child and some of his accomplices. One of them confessed that they had killed Ogunbode, removed some of his body parts, and buried the rest inside the church.


When the police searched the church, they found the buried body parts along with weapons, including guns, a battle axe, and cutlasses.
