Nollywood actress Tawa Ajisefini, also known as Monkele, has shared her emotional journey of waiting five years to have a child after marriage.
Facing Criticism and Pressure
In an interview with City People Magazine, Tawa revealed how she faced criticism and pressure from social media users, with some even calling her barren. Despite this, she stayed strong in her faith, believing that God would answer her prayers.
Husband’s Support
Tawa praised her husband for being her pillar of support. Even though he had two children from a previous relationship, he always reassured her, saying, "Tawa, calm down, don’t worry, God will do it."
She admitted that sometimes, out of frustration, she would joke with him, saying, "So, you don’t want me to have my own children because you already have two?" But he remained patient and supportive.
He also had a bold response for those who questioned when she would have a baby. He would ask them, "When are you going to die?"—a way of shutting down unnecessary pressure.
Finding Out She Was Pregnant
Tawa finally welcomed her first child in 2024. She recalled how she first suspected she was pregnant while on a movie set. Feeling unwell, she called her husband, who advised her to visit the hospital. However, she didn’t think it was pregnancy at the time.
Now, she is grateful to God for answering her prayers and appreciates her husband and in-laws for their support.
Keeping Her Virginity Until Marriage
The actress also shared that she remained a virgin until marriage. She made this decision at age 15 after hearing a sermon by an Imam, who said that a girl who keeps her virginity until marriage would receive God’s mercy and bring blessings to her mother.
Her Nollywood Career
Tawa Ajisefini has been in the movie industry since 2003 and has starred in films like Okun Ife Yi and Opin Ireti. She also worked as a personal assistant to Funke Akindele before making a name for herself.
Now, she enjoys motherhood after years of waiting—a testimony of patience, faith, and love.
