Lateef Adedimeji Shares Hilarious Story of How He Proposed to Mo Bimpe
Popular Nollywood actor Lateef Adedimeji has opened up about the funny and unexpected way he proposed to his wife, Mo Bimpe, just three months into their relationship.
During an interview on the With Chude podcast, the actor revealed that his wife initially didn’t take his proposal seriously—especially because it happened over the phone!
According to Lateef, Mo Bimpe’s first reaction was disbelief, and she even dismissed his proposal as a joke. Her major concern, he explained, was their religious differences.
"I called her and told her I wanted to ask her something. Then I said, ‘I want to marry you.’ She just laughed and said, ‘What’s wrong with this one? Get out! I can’t marry a Muslim; are you okay? My daddy won’t even hear of it.’"
Determined to prove his sincerity, Lateef decided to meet her father in person to seek his blessing.
"I told her we’d go see her dad, and I’d speak to him. So we traveled to her village during one of their festivals. Towards the end, I requested to meet her father. I assured him that I would take good care of his daughter. He said he would pray about it and get back to us—and that was it."
Reflecting on their love story, the actor admitted that the proposal was completely unplanned, but everything eventually fell into places
"We had only dated for about three months before we got married," he shared.
For months before their wedding, the couple repeatedly denied being in a relationship, but fans had long suspected otherwise. Their wedding celebrations finally confirmed the speculations.
The traditional wedding took place on Saturday, December 18, 2021, at Ijero-Ekiti in Ekiti State, followed by a Nikkah ceremony on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, in Ikeja, Lagos State.
